Brilliant news! I have been limping since I got to the hostel in Morlaix a day and a half ago. My left achilles is really bad. I awoke this morning and it seemed ok until I stepped out into the corridor and walked down the stairs, and it was worse. I had to go the shop and it was hurting and I was super concerned. That kind of injury can take weeks if not months to heal. It could have spelled that end of the pilgrimage before it truly started. I was uber stressed. So, being me I decided not to simply accept it and ran some self diagnostics, tested out a few things and lo and behold I noticed something. There was a little red mark exactly where the pain was emanating from. Observing my barefoot shoes I realised that it was exactly where the elastic band lay on my tendon. I adjusted the back so that I was walking on it as if on flip flops and bam! Pain completely gone! For some reason the pressure from the elastic of the shoe was restricting movement of the tendon and causing quite harsh pain. Weird thing is, the elastic isnt that strong and it really, really didnt seem like it could cause that much pain but there we go, problem solved! For the next 20 minutes at least I was over the moon, the rush of relief was unreal! So, I can crack on tomorrow and really get this pilgrimage started now... Unfortunately, the next 4 days are all camp wherever u can days and there is only one shop on the whole route. It turns out that the villages in France dont have shops. I am having to completely rethink my entire route, but given that I no longer have Heisencart, I am far more free to go wherever I want so may now be able to stick to the main roads and towns/cities. But, I will say more about that once I get to the campsite in Callac where I hope there is internet! In the meantime, please feast your eyes on the first video! Its not a vlog yet, its all about Heisencart, but it will show you why I am so devastated about losing him so soon... Its my favourite tune of the summer too, so very fitting that the lyrics fit.
