Brown-Dunkin department store occupied 6 floors of the Hunt - TopicsExpress

Brown-Dunkin department store occupied 6 floors of the Hunt Building for decades at 4th and Main St. The Hunt opened in 1921 as the four-story Hunt Dry Goods Co. In 1924, Brown-Dunkin Dry Goods Co. purchased the Hunt and topped it with 11 more stories, which later were leased as offices. The early shot is from around 1934, when the Hunt building next to the Haber Building with a Rexall Drug store and Seidenbachs womens clothing store to the right, and Tulsa Savings and Loan, Orpheum Theater and the Pioneer (SWB) Telephone building on the left. One of the only recognizable building still standing from this photo is the 1918 16-story Cosden Building off to the left. You may know it better after it had 20 floors added in the early 80s. and is now known as the Mid-Continent Tower. Brown-Dunkin would eventually evolve into Dillards and move its stores to the suburbs. The Hunt Building was imploded in June 1970, to clear space for the First National Bank plaza....still one of Tulsas more unusual downtown areas.
