Brownwood Public Librarys Genealogy & Local History Branch Brownwood Public Librarys, Genealogy & Local History Branch across from the Court House, is a fantastic place to research ones family and local history. Caution, we are not a quiet library. We interact and share our discoveries, assist those searching, support community research and promote our areas rich history in general. With our large collection of books, newspapers, maps, periodicals, family histories, school annuals, cemetery inscriptions, community histories, out of print materials, microfilm, photos, archived material on CDs and DVDs, we have over 5,000 items in our library available to our patrons. Our library is staffed by library employees and volunteers from the Pecan Valley Genealogical Society. We host historical organizations meetings as well as assist those writing about our rich history. We concentrate on materials for our own Brown County, but also adjoining counties of San Saba, McCulloch, Mills, Comanche, Coleman, Callahan and Eastland. We have research materials for not only our central area, but also for the state of Texas at large and the whole United States. Your Brownwood Public Library Card is a Virtual Passport We sponsor online research sites, that you can access from your home computer, through the Texas State Library that has; ~ Heritage Quest - Research materials to trace family history. ~ Handbook of Texas Online - Explore Texas with articles of people, places and events. ~ Texas Sanborn Maps - Historical Maps for historians, geologists and genealogists. ~ EBSCO Texas Reference Center - Includes more than 80 full text journals and books about Texas history. ~ many more resources. . . . ,and our Brownwood Public Librarys Catalog of holdings is available from your computer. You can search for materials by subject, author or title to check for availability. All printed material, eBooks, DVDs and our unique Genealogy Collection is available at; brownwoodpubliclibrary/Online.htm Other subscription research sites are available at our Genealogy & Local History Branch.
