Burning and sizzling issues of the day... The Gambia is Under a De Facto State of Emergency....or shall we call it, a State of Siege , by Dictator Yaya Jammehs brown shirts, or Green Shirts. Gambias are crying inside, while trying to fake a smile... In a democratic country, a president will explain to the electorate why it is necessary to invoke emergency powers to impose a state of emergency. These emergency powers will have an expiration date which can be renewed. People may get held longer than normal, but are accorded their rights as they go through the court system. In short , emergency powers should be sparingly used by elected and responsible leaders. What is happening in Gambia the last few days is a further demonstration that Dictator Yaya Jammeh considers himself the law, the absolute ruler, with utter disregard for the law of the land . He is subjecting Gambian to yet another round of humiliation, threats, arbitrary arrests and detention, and bringing economic activity to a screeching halt. Gambian workers in turn, are becoming less and less productive. Jammeh never sought, or announced the imposition of a state of emergency, or rule by decree, but thats exactly what Gambian are being subjected to today. To rub salt into their collective national wounds, his forces are subjecting people to humiliating searches, invasion of privacy, confiscation, and outright thievery. By publicly offering people cash rewards to snitch on their neighbors and family members, he continues to tear asunder, the very stitches that hold our communities together Families are tearing each other apart over material things. This behavior, this executive incitement to violence is setting in motion actions which are leading to ethnic cleansing and persecution.Gambians have rightfully become terrified, they cannot be seen to be talking on their personal phones in public. This behavior is alien to us, immoral, un-Islamic, and certainly not Christian. My friends, all of you have called Gambia the last few in days, and you have to admit that Gambians are living under a state of terror, period! People are being picked up in the dead of night by strange and plain clothed, blood thirsty people, and driven away to secret locations. Journalists dare not report on the abuses and violations, lest they risk immediate detention incommunicado . Gambia, under Jammeh, has become a graveyard to journalists. You have to admit that your family and friends do not sound confident and safe in the land of their ancestors. You have to admit that Gambians sound defeated, depressed, and suffering from a vexation of their spitits. This cannot be the Gambia you grew up in, free, open, happy, and peaceful. The economic situation is worsening, due to the security stranglehold . Farmers and petty traders are unable to move around with their goods. Their customers have simply stayed put, due to fear. The PPP calls on the Jammeh regime to respect the law of the land. People need to be charged or released, and to set up an independent commission to investigates rights abuses My friends, all is not lost yet. Their is real power in your hands today. Call your families to stay away from the shameful public display of buffoonery. Lets organize and mobilize our families and friends, and prepare for 2016 elections. A united coalition of the opposition can make a united demand for electoral reforms. Yaya Jammeh will lose in a free and fair elections, hands down. Mr. President, the people may be terrified, but you cannot force them to love you. You forced yourself on us in 1994, we never accepted you, and you remain illegitimate to this day. Longevity does not, and will not equate legitimacy. The AFPRC has brought nothing but misery, death , disappearances, economic stagnation and decline, social fragmentation, massive exodus of real Gambian brain power. Meanwhile, Dictator Yaya Jammehs estimated wealth is $1.8Billion! Google it yourself...with properties on three continents Its time for Gambians to start believing in themselves again, and reject Dictatorship as an ecpetiment which failed miserably. Twenty years is enough suffering for anybody...please share on Facebook, Like us and come back for more, Thank you
