Bus accident claims 6: Six people died on the spot and 24 others were injured when a bus they were travelling in was side-swiped by a haulage truck at the 69-kilometre peg, near Sese growth point, along the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway. Police said the accident occurred at 4am on Thursday when a Harare-bound Kingswin bus was side-swiped by a haulage truck belonging to Bindura Haulage. The bus driver lost control and veered off the road before the bus caught fire. Among the dead was the bus conductor while the driver is reported to be in a critical condition. The injured were admitted at Masvingo General Hospital where their condition is reported to be stable. Two men and three women have been positively identified while one body was burnt beyond recognition. Police are withholding names of the dead as next of kin are yet to be advised. Meanwhile, two people died on the spot and several others were seriously injured when a commuter omnibus they were travelling in over-turned at the 231-kilometre peg along the Harare-Mukumbura road near Kamutsenzere Primary School in Mukumbura. The commuter omnibus which was travelling from Mount Darwin to Mukumbura had just completed descending Mavhuradonha mountain road when the accident occurred. When ZBC News crew arrived at the scene bodies of the dead were still lying by the roadside while the injured had been ferried to Kamutsenzere clinic. In an interview, a passenger in the commuter omnibus, Mr Stany Ngaraira, who escaped with minor injuries, said the driver was trying to avoid hitting guinea fowls when the vehicle veered off the road before over-turning.
