“But it’s my job!” If the excuse of just following - TopicsExpress

“But it’s my job!” If the excuse of just following instructions is not acceptable for an individual voluntarily under the management of a private company concerning issues of morality that infringe upon the rights of others then I ask this: Why is it acceptable for individuals voluntarily joined as members of law enforcement and military to use the excuse of “just following orders?” When it is legal for the agent of government, whether elected, voluntarily joined, or appointed, to hide behind the excuse of just following orders to persecute those not voluntarily affiliated with said government then there is tyranny. Ah, but what of the conscripted individual forced into service to the benefit of government? What say I about his plight and moral responsibility? Even he has a choice but I cannot judge his choice righteously as I have been fortunate enough to not be burdened with such a decision…yet. I fear that choice and I have great sympathy for the poor souls whom know that choice better than I. In theory I say he has a choice to succumb to the demand for obedience and he has a choice to say no to the possible reward of the evils of the drafting government’s mind! Oh, but those in law enforcement are often faced with split second decisions that may put the officer’s life at risk. The world is a dangerous place and being a member of any police department has so far been a voluntary act. Therefore it would behoove every individual voluntarily choosing to become a member to first know the law and whose interest the law serves? Is it Liberty’s or Tyranny’s interests? The same applies to military service. I understand the noble intent behind the creation of law enforcement and military to protect the innocent and serve the common good of the general public. Unfortunately the time always comes when the noble intent to protect and serve becomes the wicked and devious intent to empower the tyrants. This always occurs because those willing to serve fail to adequately understand whose intent the law serves before volunteering. Once volunteered the power of peer pressure is often too much too resist. That is why government is like fire. It can be beneficial to mankind but it must be closely and carefully monitored lest it grows out of control and destroys everything until there is no fuel left for it to carry on. We do not often use fire uncontrolled to ply our trades or sustain our lives. We use fire under very controlled circumstances and challenge every mismanaged approach it takes before it comes after us. Often times we don’t even use fire directly in the things that make our lives comfortable. Electric heating, infrared cooking and hot coals are used in place of open flames many times. Many of us in first world countries have gas or electric stoves to cook our meals with. For those of us with gas stoves we don’t ever leave the gas running as it is first dangerous and second it is expensive. Why do we allow government to continue running while not watching it let alone allow it to continue confiscating our money? That is both dangerous and expensive. -JLD ~~~
