By Dan Sule August 6, 2012 PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN will likely know whether or not he will face real impeachment proceedings in September this year when the Federal House of Representatives resumes. The reason being that the former Chairman of South-South Parliamentary Caucus in the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly, Mr. Andrew Uchendu said there is no reversal of the commencement of impeachment proceedings against President Jonathan should he fail to implement the 2012 budget. However, an Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) member representing Idemili Federal Constituency (of Anambra State) in the House of Representatives, Chief Chinwendu Odedo has disagreed with some of his colleagues in the National Assembly, especially CAN members, who are calling for the impeachment of the President. Describing the call as unnecessary, the lawmaker noted that impeachment was mentioned by the Minority Leader, Chief Gbajabiamila, during a debate on the release of funds for the implementation of the 2012 Appropriation Law. Odedo, who addressed journalists at his Nnobi country home during a poverty alleviation programme where he presented 10 vehicles, foodstuff, cash for barbing/hair-dressing salons, tailoring and farming/poultry to his constituents, said he believed the discomfort in the country was because Nigerians felt the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led Federal Government had not done well since 1999. Communities whose natives benefitted from the empowerment programme included Nkpor, Uke, Oraukwu, Eziowelle. Others were Abacha, Abatete and Umuoji. About 5,000 beneficiaries would participate in the existing phase of the programme.
