By KEVIN SCANNELL Sun Advocate reporter A tip from the FBI to local authorities led to the arrest of a man on Thursday in Wellington who has been on the run for 34 years. According to a Carbon County Sheriffs press release, Sam Gene Harris, 61, was taken into custody by Carbon County deputies on Thursday. Harris was a wanted fugitive from the Mississippi Department of Corrections dating back to November 27, 1980. Harris had an extensive criminal record all over the country, including previous crimes mainly related to theft, the release said. He has used a number of aliases and was able to get a Utah drivers license under name Wayne Edward Stevens. Authorities believe he had been living in the Wellington area for many years and even had dealings with local law enforcement under the Stevens alias. The Carbon County Sheriffs Office, Wellington Police and Price City Police, along with assistance from the FBI, contributed to the investigation and arrest of Harris. The criminal investigation, led by Capt. Chad Feichko of the Wellington Police Department, is still ongoing.
