By now you may have heard that my broadcast partners, Ted Leitner, does NOT like Coors Field, but even he would have to feel good about his ballpark experience tonight watching the Pads convincingly beat the Rockies 6-1 to take the series opener. Ian Kennedy lead the way tonight pitching brilliantly from the first inning, working out of a jam created by some lackluster Padres defense that did not result in any errors, but forced Ian to essentially get 5 outs. HE had it all working for the second game in a row, and was fun watching him execute pitches, especially well located fastballs down and up. The Friars got him a run in the 4th, but the Rocks responded with a HR to tie it in their half of the inning, and it stayed 1-1 until the 6th. Medica, Rivera, and Maybin each doubled to plate 2, and give Kennedy a 3-1 lead with rain clouds and lightening threatening. The Friars opened it the 7th with 3 more the big hit being a 2-run Headley double. After Ian mowed them down again in the 7th the skies opened up delaying the game, but when it resumed Quackenbush and Stauffer held the lead and secured the 6-1 Pads W. Tomorrow ALl-Star Ross goes against Morales to try to lock up a series victory. Fist pitch is at 5:40 with Uncle Teddy and me bring the action to you on the Mighty 1090. Look forward to having you with us!
