By the grace of God, I will be studying the book of Romans for January and February, in two parts. Im using the ESV because I rather enjoyed reading through it for the first time last year, it is a very good literal translation and practical for reading. I have mainly studied and read through the NKJV for the last 15 years, and I also study using the NASB (excellent for deeper study), but I wanted to try something different. Im reading chapters 1-8 repetitively every single day for one month, I wrote down the main themes of each chapter so I can re-read the cards and keep my memory fresh and build a mental outline of each chapter, Im reading commentary (MacArthur Commentary, but only have the 1-8 for Romans, and prayerfully, I can obtain the 9-16, somehow), and picking memory verses from each chapter, then I will do the same thing for the second half of the book of Romans. (I tried this repetitive reading technique with the book of 1 John, a while ago, before making this 3 year commitment for the entire New Testament, just to be sure I could handle it, and I QUITE enjoyed it!) I like memory verses, because I am NOT a memorizing type of person, I am better at being visual, thinking, analyzing and learning than I am at memorizing, so this forces me to step outside my comfort zone and learn the exact word for word verses instead of just visually knowing where it is in my bible or having a general sense of the verse. By Gods grace, I have done a dozen verses in one week before, so I dont think it will too hard to do just eight in one month. So far, I am absolutely LOVING this, and its just what I needed to get out of my normal Bible reading habits, and create better study skills for the Scriptures. Soli Deo Gloria!
