CBI HERO Arson K-9 Retires! How do you recognize the extraordinary career of an arson K-9 with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that has made a difference in countless lives, has aided in hundreds of fire investigations, and has made a number of red carpet treks in Hollywood during her illustrious career? You host a retirement celebration at the Willow Run Feed & Supply (5700 W. 120 Avenue) in Brighton beginning at 11:00 a.m. on August 2, 2014. The CBI arson dog celebration at Willow Run will also feature the formal welcome to the newest member of the CBI Arson Dog Program, K-9 Riley. Arson Investigator Agent Jerry Means will be on-hand for K-9 Sadie’s formal retirement along with a special oath of office ceremony for K-9 Riley. Agent Means and K-9 Riley will also provide a demonstration of Riley’s superior detection skills at the event. The Arson Dog program is funded by the State Farm Insurance Companies®. It’s available to public safety organizations (like the CBI) to aid in arson investigations across the United States and Canada. Since its beginning in 1993, State Farm has placed more than 300 dogs in 44 states, three Canadian provinces and the District of Columbia. Sadie Overview Sadie is a 9-year-old black Lab born in Arvada, Colorado. Sadie served the citizens of Colorado from 2007 to 2014. She responded to approximately 500 fires during her tenure. Sadie served as the model for the National Fire Dog Monument in Washington DC, and in 2011 was she was named the Top Law Enforcement/Arson Dog in the US by the American Humane Association. Sadie also served as a National Ambassador to the American Humane Association, and was awarded the Golden Paws Award from Max Fund no kill shelter for Community Service. Sadie was also recognized by the Masons with a Gold Medal and the Rocky Mountain Special Investigations Unit for Community Service. Sadie retired in April of 2014 and spends her free time mentoring K-9 Riley. Riley Overview Riley is a two-year-old black lab born in Indianapolis, Indiana. Rileys working career began as a seeing-eye dog. He completed four quarters of guide dog training, however, due to his scent dominance he was designated to serve as an arson dog. According to his partner Agent Means, K-9 Riley is very smart and knows how perform numerous commands. Riley graduated from Arson K-9 School in May and has already responded to nearly 20 fires. K-9 Riley played an integral role in his first fire response, locating critical evidence in the case.
