CHALLENGE REDUX, PART 1: A dose of reality. The Friends & Family Challenge is finally over. Thank goodness we can finally rest. Congrats to those who reached their goals, better luck next time to those who didn’t, and thanks to those who helped. You always hope that a challenge will get folks to rise to the occasion – some did, others didn’t – many lessons were learned along the way. 1. Y’all can accomplish much more working together than working alone. Stop fighting against each other and help each other. Everyone wins when we collaborate. Teamwork! 2. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. I was disappointed to see that many of y’all didn’t even bother to attempt taking on the challenge. You threw in the towel before even getting started. If you lack passion, why are you on DC? Be in it to win it. 3. The lack of support for the giving pages was absolutely shameful. Giving pages exist to help y’all. If y’all don’t see how supporting page admins to get money to put back into the page for your projects helps y’all , then perhaps the giving pages aren’t the right place for you. Unfortunately, a lot of donors sat and watched as giving pages that have bent over backwards to help others got ZERO support and how folks refused to pay it forward even though many of them had projects helped by the giving pages. Donors also watched as the “What’s in it for me? It’s all about me.” mentality of greed & selfishness exhibited itself. Donors can’t unsee that. Some have lost faith in teachers & DC. Some won’t be supporting certain teachers in the future. Some may no longer support any teachers or DC. The damage has been done. Much like Santa, donors have a list of who is naughty and who is nice. Kindness begets kindness. Being out for yourself isn’t an endearing trait and it’s not one donors want to see passed on to kids that you teach. If you wonder why some teachers get more support than others – there ya go. Donors like to help those who help others.
