CJPAC fellow’s are proud to announce that the first speaker at “So, you want to be a lobbyist” is none other than Tim Powers, Vice-Chairman of Summa Strategies. Powers is among the very best lobbyists in Canada and is consistently described as such. Mr. Powers has participated extensively in many aspects of the Canadian political process. He has served as an advisor to a national party leader and federal cabinet ministers, was an aboriginal affairs negotiator for the federal government and acted as a private consultant to groups involved in the Voisey’s Bay development. Mr. Powers began his career as an assistant and advisor to the Honourable John C. Crosbie, then Minister of Fisheries and Oceans. Thereafter, he acted as advisor to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. Mr. Powers also served as the Director of Policy and Research to the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada. Mr. Powers is also a media commentator, appearing frequently on CBC’s “Power and Politics” and Ottawa radio station, CFRA. He also does a twice weekly Ottawa report for VOCM in Newfoundland. As well, he writes for the Globe and Mail online and the Hill Times newspaper.
