CLUB LICENSING AND DUAL OWNERSHIP Many people are asking that with Club licensing what will happen with companies that own multiple teams like Konkola Copper Mines ( Nchanga Rangers, Konkola Blades, KMP and Nampundwe) Mopani Copper Mines ( Nkana and Mufulira Wanderers) and several others. Well companies can still maintain all the teams. Lets take a look at a Case Study in the Korean League popularly known as the K-League. Hyundia owns 3 teams which all play in the K-League ( Busan I Park, Jeonbuk Hyundai motors and Ulsan Hyundai) All 3 teams are owned by Hynudai with a slight difference. Busan are owned by Hyundai Development company, Jeonbuk is owned by Hyundai Motor company and Ulsan are owned by Hyundai Heavy Industries. Hyundai development Company is the parent company while the other two are subsidiaries ( Hyundai Motor Company) and ( Hyundai Heavy industries). In relation to the Zambian situation KCM can allow each division to sponsor a team seperately and not as KCM. KCM can take ownership over Nchanga rangers while Konkola Division can take over Konkola Blades with Nampundwe taking over Nampundwe FC. Same for Mopani. Thes are avenues which can be explored. Another route is the system that Shimuzu S Pulse of the Japanese League have used. After failing to find a main sponsor they formed a Company in which local companies from the town bought shares to run the Club. Over 6companies bought into the club. These are some ways that other Clubs have solved some Challenges that come with Club Licensing. Written by Puncherello Chama
