I listened to you on HTS a while ago: You started your argument with the age-old statistical axiom that averages must be interpreted in the context of variability. That is a basic statistical point; but despite being a professional economist who (I assume) is versed in econometrics, you fell into the same illogical novice trap as the non-professional. Indeed, the prevailing CIF price maybe $6 plus and Im prepared to concede that; but the CIF of $8.60 being applied is not the prevailing CIF prince! It is the average over the period under review. Im disappointed that you didnt bring closure to your case by reconciling the two scenarios . . . unless HTS guillotined you. Dr Preville, as academics, we should always aim to raise the bar. Its a social and moral responsibility.
