It is essentially a Japanese diet. The Japanese have been the healthiest and longest lived people in the world until now. A Macrobiotic diet recommends 50% vegetables, 25% beans, lentils, nuts seeds, fish, tempeh, seitan and other sources of protein and 25% whole grains such as millet, barley, buckwheat and brown rice as well as many condiments, side dishes, some seaweeds and fruit. Organic food without pesticides and herbicides are recommended as well. Each dietary recommendation is tailored to fit the particular individual and his or her particular history, location and health issues.
