The American University in Cairo (AUC) and the University of Tübingen in Germany are offering a Joint MA in Comparative & Middle East Politics and Society to continue in fall 2014 following an exciting launch in 2013. Designed in the spirit of academic exchange, the two-year program offers a variety of coursework, a semester abroad at the partner institution, comprehensive language training, joint supervision of the thesis, and full access to a team of dedicated faculty from both universities. For its part in the joint program, AUC is actively recruiting up to 10 applicants from across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region with selection based on academic merit, personal qualification and recommendations, as well as motivation for graduate study. Beyond the admissions process, up to ten stipends for students at AUC will be awarded in a second round of selection involving faculty of both universities, as well as public and private sector professionals. Stipends are expected to reach 400 Euros monthly while in Cairo, and up to 800 Euros monthly while on the exchange semester in Tübingen. While the language of instruction for the program is English, further funding may also be available for German language acquisition to accompany study. In a nutshell, the Joint MA in CMEPS: - begins in the fall term (late August/early September) - consists of 20 total spaces (10 each at AUC and the University of Tübingen) - is partially funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) - is taught completely in English (both in Egypt and in Germany) - runs for a total of four academic semesters (two years) Expected Qualifications: Successful applicants to the CMEPS program are expected to: • hold a B.A. degree (or institutional equivalent) in political science or a related social science (such as Middle East or Islamic studies, anthropology, sociology, history, public policy, law, among others) • provide evidence of proficiency in English, e.g. TOEFL scores (of at least 90), IELTS (of at least 6.5).
