The Battle Creek Police Department has partnered with area law enforcement and public safety organizations including the Michigan State Police, Emmett Township Department of Public Safety, the Calhoun County Sheriffs Department, the Tribal Police of the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi, and the Battle Creek Fire Department. In addition community volunteer organizations including the Community Emergency Response Team and the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association are joining in the fun. Last year was the departments first Trunk or Treat, and the response from the community dramatically exceeded the hopes of organizer Sgt. Troy Gilleylen, No one realized how big Trunk or Treat was going to be, until children and parents lined up an entire city block to get candy from police officers. We underestimated the amount of children that would come, and we ran out of candy within the first half hour. Available officers went to local stores to get more candy and volunteers were emptying their pocket books for any change they could find, so we all could buy more candy for the children. That moment for something so simple our community came together. Thats what makes Trunk or Treat a worth while event. Michigan State Police Community Services Trooper, Kristi Angelo is returning for this years event, Trunk or Treat provides a safe environment for kids to trick or treat, show off their costumes and interact with the many facets of local law enforcement.
