Candida It is important to understand that everybody has a certain amount of Candida already in their body. It is naturally present in the gut as part of a balanced colon that helps you to digest your food. When I refer to someone as Candida positive I am referring to candidiasis, the overgrowth of Candida. Here are some of the factors that effect Candida overgrowth. Diet: Today’s diet is a feast for Candida. Processed sugary foods and refined carbohydrates made with processed foods like white flour and rice and pasta can all contribute to Candida growth. If you have a healthy immune system your body can control Candida itself. However a diet rich in sugar and processed food depresses your immune system allowing the Candida yeast to flourish. Yeast containing foods must be avoided as they aggravate the symptoms of Candida. Antibiotics: This is the main cause of a Candida outbreak. Although sometimes antibiotics are nessessary sometimes doctors may prescribe antibiotics for simple things that may be otherwise treated. People must remember a lot of our food is also treated with antibiotics, buying organic foods will reduce your exposure to antibiotics. Stress Stress is candidas best friend, it affects your body in 2 ways the body releases cortisol the stress hormone which elevates the blood sugar and weakens your immune system. The Candida yeast feeds on the extra sugar while your weakened immune system is powerless to stop it. Others: The contraceptive pill causes hormone imbalances in the body which can contribute to Candida overgrowth. Mercury filling causes a weakened immune system due to the effect of the mercury on the body. Chlorine and fluoride kill the beneficial bacteria in the gut. Diabetics are prone to Candida overgrowth as they have compromised immune systems and have always a higher blood sugar level. Lauragh Rankin Murphy CIBTAC ITEC B.A Symptoms of Candida.
