Charles Eghweree Wrote: OSUN polls: Omnibus signs: My heart is troubled that the do or die political rivalry between the PDP and the apc in Western Nigeria, may take take a dangerous dimension if care is not taken to nip the ugly trend of phantom popularity through pre-election opinion polls is not checked. Within the space of one week, two different pre-election popularity poll results, have emerged with the first projecting the apc candidate as been ahead of that of the PDP with as much margin as 70%. Just yesterday, yet another pre-election poll result was released which placed the PDP candidate ahead of that of the apc. While pre-election popularity polls in sane climes give clue as to the possible outcome of the election proper, same should not be expected in Nigeria. This because this one Osun state, is purely a political instrument meant to hoodwink the voting public by mischievous politicians. This is both shameful and regrettable phase of our electioneering process. Opinion polls are usually consistent in their forecast and never doctored to suit the political whims of any self-centred individual or group. Can we say same of this been brandished in Osun? Those sponsoring thus phantom popularity pre-election poll should be seen as who they are: mischief makers. They are only craving an opportunity to cause trouble should they loose the real election. None should for selfish political reasons, either roll back our democratic gains or plunge Osun state into political turmoil. I hereby call on INEC to sanction erring groups and parties to ensure that sanity of the electoral process remain untainted in Osun and Nigeria with time. To the security forces, your neutrality in electoral issues, is non-negotiable: do the needful and shun partisan patronage. To good people of Osun state to be bold enough to vote their conscience come next week Saturday as you go to the polls to validate a gubernatorial candidate. God bless Nigeria! DYM...All the way!
