Cheddar Cheese and Buttermilk Savory Buns These buns can be served on their own with tea or with pasta, salad, chicken and fish!! Ingredients: 2 cups all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking powder ½ teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon sugar ¾ teaspoon salt 4 cloves crushed garlic 1-2 jalapeno pepper as per taste, finally chopped 1 cup sharp shredded cheddar cheese (Amul processed cheese can be substituted for cheddar cheese) 1 cup cold buttermilk (used ¾ cup yogurt and ¼ cup milk and mixed them together to get 1 cup of buttermilk) ½ cup butter, melted and cooled for few minutes For the Topping: 2 tablespoons melted butter 2 teaspoon minced fresh parsley (1 teaspoon dried) Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 475 degrees F (246 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a nonstick mat. 2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, salt, cheddar cheese, crushed garlic and chopped jalapeno. 3. In a medium bowl, stir together the buttermilk and melted butter until mixed well and becomes thick. 4. Add the buttermilk mixture to the flour mixture and mix gently with a rubber spatula just until a dough forms. Use greased hands to form small balls ( about ¼ cup of dough ). Place on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about an inch in between balls. 5. Bake until the buns are golden brown, about 10 minutes. While the buns are in the oven, stir together the 2 tablespoons melted butter and parsley. Remove the buns from the oven and immediately brush with the topping mixture. Allow to cool for couple of minutes before serving. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for 2- 3 days.
