Cheeky Update: Following the sickening attack on our much loved foster donkey, Cheeky, we can tell you she is now receiving antibiotics and pain killers and is slowly recovering in her stable. Although Cheeky is still subdued, thankfully she is eating again which is a good sign. She is also receiving excellent care from the farm’s livestock team with support from our friends at Usk Vets. Cheeky came to the farm from the Donkey Sanctuary in 2006 as a foster donkey in need of a good home. Lizzie Ellis from the Donkey Sanctuary visited this morning and told us: ‘Everybody at the Donkey Sanctuary is sickened and appalled at what has happened to Cheeky and we are working with the team at the farm to work out how we can help prevent anything like this happening again. My thanks go to the team at the Farm and Usk Vets for giving her such devoted care. Also, thanks for all the public support which is always heart warming but especially at a time like this.’ Cheeky is a much loved character at the farm and her work with the Donkey Sanctuary has meant that hundreds of people have been trained to care for donkeys so that they can take on foster donkeys of their own. Since the attack we have been inundated with hundreds of messages of support and kind offers of assistance. Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone supporting us during this sad time. Please rest assured that she is receiving the best possible care and we will keep informing you on her progress and any developments on this page. We are setting up a separate fund to go towards the vet bills and medication, increase security for the animals and if we can raise enough, improve the stables for the donkeys. Anyone wishing to donate is asked to email their name and number to the farm or call 01633 647662. The phone line could be very busy but please leave your name and number and we will call you back as soon as possible. The Farm are working closely with Gwent Police who believe the wounds were deliberately inflicted but have yet to identify the weapon used. Such is the nature of the attack, CID are attending the farm this afternoon to investigate further. They have also agreed to run regular night time patrols of the farm as have local security company Orbital Facilities. We are appealing to anyone who has any information regarding this incident to contact the farm directly (01633 647662) or Gwent Police on 101.
