Chioma Powers Wrote I remember some of BUHARIS devious ACHIEVEMENTS: 1: War Against Indiscipline (WAI) used to discipline any Journalist, Social Critics and Nigerians who dared criticize him or his administration. Example Tunde Thompson, Nduka Irabor, etc. comes to mind. 2: NSO- Nigerian Security Organisation (Buhari Secret Police Force), used against our conventional Police to whisk away any Nigerian, in the middle of the night to unknown destination, for torture, and often times for extra-judicial killings. 3. He CLOSED DOWN the ultra-mega Nigerian Petrochemical industry: The AJAOKUTA STEEL MILL COMPLEX started by Shagari/Ekwueme government, at the same time Asians started theirs: Singapore, Malaysia, etc started their own Steel Mill, meant for industrial revolution. Asians used theirs to become Asian Economic Tigers in the 1990s till today, while Buhari WASTED ours. The Billions of Dollars invested and sunk into this Project were left and abandoned by Buhari to decay. The same project which was estimated to create over 150,000 jobs on inception, made enterpreneurial developments inroads, etc. became wasted. A mere visit by Nigerians to this Site in Ajaokuta will convince you that this not politics or name damage. 4. Because of the concept of The Ajaokuta Steel Mill Complex, many States then, embarked on serious projects to tap the resources of it. Comes to mind is the ex-Governor of Imo State, Dr. Sam Mbakwe (RIP) who were starting the mega, Imo State Agro-Allied Poultry Industry to produce Eggs very cheaply and Food for West Africa, despite the machines and equipments were bought and paid for, Buhari STOPPED all projects. He sent Administrators to all over Nigeria, including Owerri, who bastardized and ravaged the projects. 5. Buhari REVOKED AND CANCELLED the Licences for the establishment of Private Universities to educate Nigerians to meet up at par with developed world. Result: Many Nigerians could not be educated than we have now. 6. Buhari STOPPED AND CLOSED DOWN the then Open University started by Shagari/Ekwueme administration. All the students were thrown out, and many became frustrated in life, and a lot returned to be market traders and dashed education all their lives. (Were this war against education not in-line and acting on the scripts of Boko Haram agenda, of against western education?) Just asking. Thanks to OBJ who revamped and re-established all these educational institutions again. 7. Buhari imprisoned anyone who dared to talk. He enacted Decree 4 (Lack of Freedom of Speech and Expression). Many Newspapers were closed down. To mind is the Satelite Newspapers, etc. 8. Buhari imprisoned old men and denied them treatments of (local herbs) medicaments to one of the most fearless critics: Dr. Pa Ajasin, Dr. Tai Solarin, and many others while he rejected all the conventional court judgments that set them free. He re-ordered the Trial, and two times the men were let-go by two different courts, Buhari continued to detain them. He did same to non-trouble maker entertainer, musician, Fela Kuti and slammed 10 years in imprison against the man, for daring to sing on a Concert Stage against his government. 9. Buhari angry with Conventional courts, set up his own Tribunals that imprisoned uncountable Nigerians under fictitious and close-room trials without the Press allowed inside, except those he cleared and allowed. From Jim Nwobodo to most of the Southern Governors were sent to prison, while the Fulanis were let go. 10. Buhari kept his relation, ex-President Shehu Shagari under Palace arrest, and imprisoned Vice President, Arch. Chief Alex Ekwueme was sent to Kirikiri Maximum Prison, and labelled him corrupt. 11. Buhari created forceful monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise, forced Nigerians to be at home and do only cleaning. Even if your wife was in labour or parents were sick and you intend to rush them to hospital, the Army will stop you and beat hell of you and the sick persons. Many lost their lives in the process. What is more annoying is that, after the Cleaning Exercise, once rain drops on the ground, it carries the sands back into the gutters. The Buhari government was not building or repairing those roads, streets, etc. cleaned to avoid Sands destroying them again. Is it how European, Americans, Japanese, Russians, and so on treated their own citizens? Buhari turned Nigerians into Zombies. 12. Buhari was so weak in leadership that it was Brigadier Tunde Idiagbon who was running the government. Immediately Idiagbon was tricked to travel to Mecca, the IBB toppled the bagger out of office. For removing him, Nigerians hailed IBB for his strength. 13. Chief Obafemi Awolowos International Passports were siezed by Buhari regime throughout the period. Thanks to IBB who returned it to him.
