Choppies acquisition of Supasave stores was always going to be problematic and report coming indicate that Safalana holdings actually tabled a bid to acquire the stores and their proposal entailed increase in employment contrary to the competition authority assertion that the decision to allow the acquisition was partly to protect jobs which could have been lost with the anticipated closure of the stores. The move increased Choppies market share to over 30% far above the dominant threshold of 25% set by the authority. I think Competition Authority may have lost credibility and footing with this ruling.
