!!!Coachella Valley!!! COD Hiring More New Faculty – Classes Are Available, Register Now! PALM DESERT, CA— College of the DesertCOD) still has over 400 classes with seats available for the Spring 2015 semester which begins on Monday, January 26. “Several general education courses have room for more students, specifically in political science, history, and philosophy, which tend to be high-demand classes,” reported Curt Luttrell, Director of Admissions and Records. In addition to open classes, the College announces that it will begin recruiting yet more faculty this month. A number of new instructors were hired last semester and more are on the way. The College’s Superintendent/President, Joel L. Kinnamon, Ed.D., stated, “I am pleased to announce that in January 2015, the college will begin recruiting twelve (12) new regular full-time faculty. The positions identified for recruitment include: two Chemistry positions, two English positions, two History positions, one Economics, one in Early Childhood Education for the Indio Campus, two Speech positions, one in Astronomy/Physics, and one in Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning/Energy Systems.” The College evaluated various factors including academic disciplines with high demand, courses that are needed by students to fulfill their student education plans, and the timing of facility and program growth, to create the final priority hiring list. President Kinnamon went on to say, “I want to reiterate that we are committed to hiring additional regular full-time faculty to serve the current and future students of our community. I continue to be impressed by the care and dedication to Student Success and Student Learning demonstrated by our faculty and staff.” The class schedule is available on the college’s website. Classes begin Monday, January 26 and the last day to add a full-term class is Monday, February 2. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify.
