Many of these books are available at public libraries, may be purchased at local bookstores or downloaded onto electronic reading devices. Summer reading provides a rich source of educational benefit. Research shows that the amount of reading done out of school is consistently related to gains in reading achievement. Please encourage your child to read actively daily by taking notes and by talking about the book with friends and family. YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS ACADEMY (YEA!) The Young Entrepreneurs Academy, (YEA!), is an innovative program that transforms local, middle and high school students into real entrepreneurial successes. The River Region Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce YEAs 3rd year in existence with plans to continue the program in the fall of 2014. YEA!is a cutting-edge program that takes students between the ages of 11 and 18 through the process of starting and launching a real business or social movement over the course of an academic year . By the end of the class, students own and operate fully-formed and functioning businesses, which may be carried on after their graduation from the program. YEA! aims to teach students at an early age how to make a job, not just take a job. It is the ONLY pre-college program developed by an entrepreneur, at a university, with support from a major entrepreneurial foundation, the Kauffman Foundation and the United States Chamber of Commerce. Any interested SCC student should see Dr. Millet by August 28th.
