Coming out the other side of a few tough days, heading for bed, I - TopicsExpress

Coming out the other side of a few tough days, heading for bed, I thought Id share a little for those who are opposed to Obamacare. Monday, feeling tired, went into a classroom and found my heart apparently pumping superhard, hands trembling violently, Conducted to reception at my publicly funded school, moved to a quiet place by a keen first-aider, given fresh water and kind attention. Paramedic arrives, summoned by school, conducts a small battery of tests to save time because the ambulance HE has called for is running a little late. He takes care of me, we joke, he lets me and my colleagues know he is quitting soon because our Government, like elements of your own, doesnt like social care. The ambulance arrives and the paramedic leaves, already having reassured me that I seem to have no life-threatening condition. The ambulance crew, too, tell me the same, but they take me to a hospital anyway and I get more thorough checks. Theyre not going to let me go until they know I am safe. I meet no unkindness, no hostility, only support. The wait is longer than it might be after the tests are done, but that again is due to underfunding. Our government is better at paying for wars, policing (though not much better there) and prisons (increasingly in the hands of private business). On Thursday (because I feel its not urgent) I get to see the General Practitioner for as long as I need to to run through Mondays events and various suspicions. Im offered medication which, at may age, doesnt even cost a nominal sum, and registered for further blood tests that took place today. Whilst a pain overload appears to be part of the problem, stress and anxiety combined are certainly a major factor. Whatever stress and anxiety I have to deal with, I do not have to deal with the stress and anxiety that a bill for my treatment would cause. Ive been well and kindly treated, and I am one of tens of thousands every year. Thats what social health care - free at the point of service - is really about.
