Commonsense Property Rights Coalition to Meet The Common Sense Property Rights Coalition will meet Monday February 10 at 6 pm at the Spring Dipper on Highway 63 in Mammoth Springs. The primary speaker of the evening will be Marilyn Slack, Howell County Coordinator of the Convention of States Project, one of many groups encouraging state legislatures to convene a Convention of States to amend the Constitution in accordance with Article V of the Constitution. Slack said “There is more than one group that are calling for a Convention Of States for various, specific amendments to the Constitution. Some are liberal groups. Some are conservative groups. Some are state legislatures. The COS Project is not calling for a specific amendment. They are calling for a COS to propose amendments to the Constitution made in strict accordance with a single subject, to limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government. There are four areas of concern with which they wish to deal - the spending and debt crisis; congressional attacks on state sovereignty; the regulatory crisis, and; the federal takeover of the decision-making process. Individual self-governance should be the rule. Radio talk show host Mike Evans will also speak regarding his Accountability Project for elected office holders. There will also be an update on the Ozark Scenic Riverways rule change proposals and Real ID. There will also be a short discussion of bills introduced into the Missouri legislature, including a Farm to Consumer Food Freedom Bill” according to Kevin Jotz, Co-Chair. Jotz said “This is an organization concerned with protection of private property rights. The group believes that without protections of private property rights nothing else is secure. The right to own and reasonably use private property is a cornerstone of the U.S. Constitution, differentiating our country from others around the world. As John Adams, one of our nation’s Founding Fathers and our second president, said: ‘The moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the laws of God, and there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence.’” Jotz added, “Future speakers will be announced at the meeting including Duane Luster, Publisher of the Missouri Torch and Terry Hampton, Independent Candidate for Congress from the8th District.
