Traces of Texas reader John Blalock kindly shared these photos of the gravesite of his cousins, Alvin and Calvin Blalock of Quitman, Texas. They were twins who were serving together when they were killed at the age of 19 at the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. Alvin was killed and Calvin was searching for his fallen brother when he was killed. They are not buried in a famous place where many can mourn them, but in the rural Myrtle Springs cemetery nearly Quitman in Wood County. The inscription at the bottom of their tombstone simply reads Sometime we will understand. RIP Calvin and Alvin Blalock. Thank you, John, for sharing these with the rest of us.
