Companies are like filtration systems for a huge natural ecosystem. I think of it like marine life. Companies grow that build blue water channels for their employees and the business customers; that can give out equally what they take in, in terms of advice, ideas, relationships. Customers are like pods of whales and you are creating all that krill they feed on. They dont stay in unwelcoming water that doesnt nourish. If all you are doing is leading them into nets and giving out no nourishment, you can say goodbye to the whales.
