Company Event: Ddays 2013 Garmin Cluj The theme for Garmin Cluj 2013 DDAYS was performance with all that it entails: passion, motivation, values for performance. One of the main moments was the speech of the emeritus mathematician and researcher Solomon Marcus, who made a foray into historical paradigms of information, communication and computation. On the same theme of performance, Leordeanu Marius, a researcher at the Institute of Mathematics of the Romanian Academy, inspired us with his passion for "Discovering the vision by making computers see". The most important benefit of witnessing these presentations has been that the passion for performance can be argued from a simple desire to understand, but mostly that it has no age limits. An 89 year old can be just as enthusiastic about self-improvement as a 20 year old. If Professor Solomon Marcus reminded us that we must rebuild a bridge between theory and practice in order to avoid loss of meaning, Leordeanu Marius showed us an example of insight and spark early in the field of computer vision. The presence of Romanian leaders in computer science and mathematics has been well synchronized with the presentations of innovative ideas generated by colleagues from Garmin Cluj. During the 6 hours of presentations, performance has been present in many forms: from the invention of a new programming language (Lucian Teodorescu), learning how to paraglide with an automatic instructor (Ban Ovidiu), how to navigate indoor -in a mall for instance(Danciu Dorin), even how to find the best restaurant for dogs or petshop with “Knav” (Badila Mihai). Finally the presentations culminated with the patent-pending invention of Ursu Mihai on revolutionary tide calculation. And because performance is not possible without defining objectives, Bogdan David added value to the event by presenting the SQA team effort in defining their values and engagement to comply with them. To the delight of those present, the event culminated with a great party at the DaVinci restaurant, where everyone showed off with their “performance” the field of dancing and merriment.
