Composing 1000 Egyptian NGOs all over Egypt The inauguration of the Egyptian Civil Coalition for Rights and Development 12-10-2014 The first field activities for the Egyptian Civil Coalition for Rights and Development was launched yesterday, October 11, 2014. It is considered the largest Egyptian coalition between civil society organizations, and includes 1000 NGOs representing all administrative centers, districts and governorates in Egypt. The activities were launched through the first consultative meeting at Qalioubya governorate with the participation of 50 NGOs representing different areas in the governorate, the meeting was co-organized by Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights as the organization calling for the establishment of the coalition, and the Egyptian Association for Overall Awareness and Development as the umbrella organization in the governorate. Last September, Maat Foundation called for the establishment of the Egyptian Civil Coalition for Rights and Development to tackle the developmental, political, human rights and security challenges faced by Egypt especially after its second revolution. The coalition seeks to maintain continuous building and development for the coalition members in relative fields to community development and human rights; assist national and local authorities, international development partners, and private sector to plan and implement development programs and projects responsive to human rights and meeting the development needs for different areas in Egypt; raise community awareness and increase citizens participation in making public policy; along with contributing to preventing terrorism and eliminating violence under the respect of law and constitution. The first consultative meeting included open discussion between the members on how to draft the institutional framework and bylaws for the coalition; the members proposals on managing the coalition during the coming period; and issues with priority that should be focused on in the coalition first work program The attendees agreed on some points including: providing guarantees for the coalitions continuity; benefiting of the established civil society coalitions and networks experience. When the participants agreed on developing a draft bylaws to be discussed during consecutive meetings in order to reach the final document, as well as the necessity to provide mechanisms for the coalitions democratic management via the formation of elected entities in each governorate, in addition to the establishment of an elected central body. When Maat Foundation will work as the coalitions secretariat during the first stage. The participants also stressed on the necessity to provide an effective mechanism to ensure mobilization and advancement of human and financial resources to support the coalition to achieve its objectives. Its worth mentioning that the coalition members would conduct consecutive meetings in the entire governorates to be concluded with the development of the bylaws first draft, the election of local authorities, the approval of the bylaws; the election of the central body and drafting the first work program.
