Computer literacy is important these days. But it is not the same - TopicsExpress

Computer literacy is important these days. But it is not the same thing as intelligence. To loosely paraphrase a line from a play by Oscar Wilde...the two rarely go together. lol Having a good vocabulary does not guarantee that a person has anything useful to say. Some people do an awful lot of talking (or writing on facebook) without having a brain in their head. Yet Im not sure thats entirely a bad thing. Sometimes you might say ninety-nine stupid things for every one thing of any value. But that one thing might be a breakthrough. Computer science pioneer Alan Turing, despite the myth of his extremely high intelligence, was not a genius. He had to use the boolean algebra of electrical circuitry to solve his advanced math problems, because he could not easily follow the elegant, elaborate abstractions of math proofs. He became an inventor because the hard way was too hard for him. He designed a computer to spare his poor brain. Intelligence is all very well. But ingenuity is a rarer trait, therefore more valuable. Of course, I may have a bias about the topic. Im not especially intelligent So I try to invent tools to solve problems rather than solving them myself. Its not cause I wouldnt, Its not cause I shouldnt, And you know that its not cause I couldnt, Its simply because Im the laziest guy in town. Computer science is all about shortcuts. You manipulate symbols defined as commands.
