Congrat Sir SULTAN RANKED 18TH MOST INFLUENTIAL MUSLIM The Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, has been named 18th among the 500 world’s most influential Muslims. The Sultan was recognised as a source of influence in lineage, development and administration especially in relation to his leadership role of the estimated 75.7 million Nigerian Muslims. He was also commended for his efforts towards resolving the Boko Haram insurgency including inviting an international joint Muslim-Christian delegation to visit Nigeria. The 500 Most Influential Muslims, also known as The Muslim 500, is an annual publication first published in 2009 which ranks the most influential Muslims in the world. The publication is compiled by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre Amman, Jordan, in cooperation with Prince Al-Waleed Bin Talal Centre for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University in the United States. The 2013/2014 edition which ranked the Sultan 18th, listed the Grand Sheikh of the Al-Azhar University and Grand Imam of the Al-Azhar Mosque, Prof. Sheikh Ahmad Muhammad Al-Tayyeb as the first most influential; King Abdullah bin ‘Abdul ‘Aziz Al-Saud, King of Saudi Arabia and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, second; Grand Ayatollah Hajj Sayyid Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, third; and King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan, fourth. Listed from fifth to 10th were King Mohammed VI of Morocco; President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia; Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Hussein Sistani Marja of the Hawza, Najaf, Iraq; Sultan Qaboos bin Sa’id Al-Sa’id of Oman and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirate (UAE) Armed Forces respectively
