Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday showcased the food security bill and the Centre’s other flagship programmes to tribals and farmers in poll-bound Rajasthan, while accusing the opposition of seeing the poor as a burden. “Nobody will sleep hungry. This is the guarantee,” he said at the Adivasi Kisan Sammelan at Salumber, around 70 km from Udaipur. In place of the old slogan, “Aadhi roti khayenge aur Congress ko layenge”, Gandhi coined a new one, “Poori roti khayenge, 100 din kaam karenge, davai lenge aur Congress ko layenge.” His address came a day after Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi had attacked the Congress at a Bharatiya Janata Party rally in Jaipur. “Let the opposition attack or abuse us, we will not accept their abuses… I want to suppress my own dreams and make your dreams my own,” Gandhi said. Salumber is in the state’s tribal heartland , considered a Congress stronghold. The party had bagged 24 of the 35 assembly seats in the region in 2009.
