Conversion has such a broad meaning and yet, we make many mistakes in our understanding of that word. Think for a moment what conversion means to you? Pray quietly over that idea or that word in your life. Is there a narrow view that applies only to a movement directed outward toward others; a desire to share one’s faith and to bring others to the community of that faith. In the midst of your prayer remember the story of St. Paul’s conversion celebrated today. Take a few minutes to read the account in acts 22:3-16. It was a conversion of the heart and applied inwardly before Paul could ever think of looking outward. Our journey in Christ is all about the two conversions - inward directed and outward directed. For me I am so ready to enter the outward but I am hampered by my neglect of the inward journey. My call is to continuous conversion of my heart, mind and soul. It is a gift to be able to recognize this journey as the vocation (in which) all of us share. On a continuum of 1-10 where would you place yourself in evaluating your attention to inner conversion? You may not wish to share but may have some thoughts to spread. -- Msgr. John Barry
