Copacabana Press Release. Copacabana Steakhouse Unites NY Latinos in Love of World Cup Soccer Brazilian restaurant is hurriedly getting ready for the World Cup in Brazil (Port Chester, NY – April 27, 2014) - Copacabana Steakhouse once again is getting ready for massive festivities for the World Cup, and with the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the Brazilian restaurant is going all out. In past World Cups, Copacabana, which of course attracts countless Brazilians as Brazil has won five World Cups, has become a Mecca for Latinos of multiple nationalities who come to watch all the games on the wide screens. In the process, Copacabana has united of these Latin Americans, from countries like Colombia, Peru, Paraguay, Argentina, El Salvador, Mexico, Guatemala and more. For the qualifying matches for the 2014 World Cup, Copacabana would feature a buffet of the food of one of the countries that was playing. There was Colombian food, Peruvian food, Argentine food and Mexican food. For the start of the World Cup in June, all 32 flags of each participating nation will be flying outside Copacabana as everyone who enjoys soccer is welcome at the restaurant regardless of their nationality or ethnic origin. Since the Cup is in Brazil, the staff at Copacabana received a permit to turn half of their parking lot into a “Brazilian beach”. There will be sand dumped on the parking lot, beach chairs and tables so that patrons will feel like they are actually on a Brazilian beach. This simulated beach will adjoin the deck in back of the bar where the widescreen tv’s are. Every single table on the beach was reserved in November with a deposit. Helder Fernandes, a Brazilian native and longtime Copacabana customer, said, “They have been preparing for this every day for so long. I doubt that there will be another place in the U.S. that will give such a unique atmosphere to watch the World Cup from Brazil.” Numerous articles in the press have told how Brazil is scrambling to get ready for the World Cup. This parallels the situation at Copacabana Steakhouse because the Brazilian restaurant is working hard to get ready for the launch of the soccer tournament. While Latinos of all nationalities frequent Copacabana for the World Cup, turning the Brazilian steakhouse into a place of unity for so many Latinos, many other groups such as Italians, Irish, Albanians and Americans join the mix.
