Council approved my request to send a letter to the Minister of Housing requesting increased funding for social / affordable housing stock to address (what I suspect) will be a serious challenge in the very near future right in our ward. Additionally, council approved my request to have the County present an update on the current status of affordable and rent-geared-to-income housing stock. While we are mandated to grow, and I do support intelligent growth, there will often be casualties of progress - yes progress. I support the laws of economics and highest and best use. I understand it. However, we must also recognize the challenges progress brings and show compassion for those who will likely be displaced as a result. I thank my colleagues for their support.
