Couple accused of stealing childs ashes arrested at Mohegan Sun UNCASVILLE, CT (WFSB) - A couple caught on tape stealing the ashes of her 8-month-old son was arrested at Mohegan Sun Casino on Sunday. Raisa Gonzalez, 21, was charged with interfering with police after a fight with her boyfriend, 23-year-old Edwards Santos, in one of the casinos garages. Gonzalez and her boyfriend fled police and were quickly arrested. Officers discovered they were wanted on charges that they stole the urn of ashes from the Luz de Paz Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Police said Gonzalez and her boyfriend owed a balance just under $800 to the funeral home. Gonzalezs died in Puerto Rico on Oct. 21, 2013 and had been cremated at Luz de Paz Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Surveillance footage captured Gonzalez taking the urn containing the childs ashes from the building located at 426 East Washington Ave. Mohegan Sun police did not know if Gonzalez and her boyfriend were gambling at the casino before the arrest. Gonzalez was charged with fifth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny in connection with the theft of the urn. Eyewitness News went to Gonzalezs Bridgeport home where she lied to the station about who she was. The owner of Luz de Paz Funeral Home, Edgar Rodriguez, said he was ready to forgive and forget, even after this exchange where he called the couple attempting to discuss the stolen urn and work out a payment plan. Santos answered and court documents show this is what he said: Santos: I dont know what youre talking about. Rodriguez: I have you on video stealing the urn and Im calling police. Santos: I dont give a (expletive) call the cops Santos hung up the phone, according to court documents. The fate of the urn and the ashes are still not known. Many people told Eyewitness News they were sympathetic to this couple back in March, thinking they just couldnt come up with the money to get their sons ashes from the funeral home. When it comes to your children, dead or alive, your parenthood is the first thing youre thinking about, Alicia McCallop, of Bridgeport, said. But, sentiments may be shifting after hearing where police found the couple after months of being on the run. Why are you in a casino if you had to steal your childs urn? If you have the money now, how couldnt you get it before, McCallop said
