Court seeks Centres view on govt ads with neta pics The Supreme Court on Thursday sought the Centres response to a report by its high-level committee recommending that government advertisements in media must not have faces of ministers and politicians of the ruling party . The committee comprising noted jurist and academician N R Madhav Menon and senior advocates Ranjit Kumar (who now is the solicitor general of India) and K Vishwanathan has said that only photographs of President and PM could be part of the advertisements. A bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi and Arun Misra asked the Centre whether it was agreeable to the recommendations of the panel, which has also suggested that the practice of multiple advertisements by government, ministries and PSUs in newspapers on birth and death anniversaries of political figures be done away with and a single consolidated advertisement be issued. The panel said that guidelines were required to stop taxpayers money being used to give publicity to politiciand and parties.political personalities.
