Crisis Rocks Kano PDP as Caretaker Leadership Resigns •Olubolade: Why APC will lose in Ekiti By Chuks Okocha in Abuja and Ibrahim Shuaibu in Kano - 06 Mar 2014 #ThisdayNews Fresh internal crisis has erupted in the Kano State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), leading to the resignation of the caretaker committee executive yesterday. In a letter signed by the Deputy State Chairman of the party, Shehu Wada Sagagi, and made available to journalists yesterday by the state Public Relations Officer, Ja’afar Sani Bello, it was disclosed that, “We, the caretaker committee of the PDP, Kano State chapter, herewith wish to tender our resignation with effect from March 5, 2014. We would like to seize this opportunity to extend our profound gratitude to the party for the privilege given to us to steer the affairs of our great party in the state.” The letter continued: “This decision became necessary taking into cognisance the recent development and the belief that the national leadership of our dear party will be accorded the opportunity to provide a platform for proper integration between old and new members of the party in the state.” Sources also revealed that the decision was suddenly taken to avert any form of embarrassment from the national headquarters of the party, as a result of some strong allegations that the caretaker committee was dancing to the tune of Mohammed Abacha, who bulldozed into the party “to take charge,” it was alleged. It was gathered that with the defection of Abacha, the focus of the party had changed tremendously, which resulted to insinuations that he was there to hijack the machinery of the party. It was learnt that prior to the defection of the former governor of the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Shekarau, the eldest son of the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, Alhaji Mohammed Abacha, had defected from the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his defection resulted to many interpretations in the party. In another development, a former minister of police affairs, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade, yesterday declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will loose the forthcoming governorship election in Ekiti State because it has not performed. He stated this when briefing newsmen after he came to return his governorship forms ahead of the March 15 Ekiti State PDP primaries and the June 21, governors election in the state. Olubolade also promised to give the people of Ekiti State joy and a new lease of life when he emerges the winner in the gubernatorial election. While he expressed the desire to abide by the dictates of the party on whether there should be consensus candidature or not, he added that he would never decamp from the PDP if he does not get the partys ticket. According to him, if given the PDP ticket and wins the governorship seat, I will give the people of Ekiti joy and a new lease of life, leadership is not by giving lectures, you have to identify with your people, you have to do their wishes, you must carry them along and you must be transparent with their money, place everything on the table for them to see, they will in turn stand by you. All the places I have worked in my life, go and check, I am free of crisis, I am free of corruption, that is what stands me out, if given the ticket, I am confident we will win the state for the PDP because the APC government of Governor Kayode Fayemi has made everything easy for us because the administration has nothing to show for its existence for almost four years now expect the cosmetic roads. So our people are tired of the government of deceit being run in Ekiti State, they want change, the people themselves are saying it loud and clear that come June 21, this year, APC government must go he declared. On the issue of picking a consensus candidate among the 17 aspirants that already obtained the nomination forms, the former minister said as a disciplined and loyal member of the PDP, he would abide by the decision of the party, saying, if it is going for the primary, I am ready, if it is by consensus arrangement, I am ready, whatever is the decision of the leadership of the party is where I will stand for. He, however, maintained that he was the most qualified candidate for the governorship job in Ekiti State based on his past experience as the former military administrator of Bayelsa State, former Minister of special duties, former minister of state for the FCT and of recent, former minister of police affairs and that his record of achievements spoke volumes in the all the places.
