Cross Country Results from Saturday! Congrats to the team on a great season. From Coach Wellman: The weather was cold and windy with occasional periods of rain or sleet. The bus ride was the quietest of the year with the vast majority of runners sleeping on the two hour bus ride. Varsity Girls The girls ran first today on what would prove to be a hilly course. The lone female senior Hannah Shield displayed lot of emotion over her last race before the start and just as much effort taking 2nd for the girls team in 58th place overall in 18.39, behind our number one female runner Mackenzie Carey who took 19th place in 17.20. Third in for the ladies was Hannah Brandner in 65th in 18.52, followed by Cassandra Meyer in 84th in a time of 19.24. Katy Branstetter concluded the scoring for the team taking 109th place in 24.11. Carey ended up finishing 9 spots out of qualifying for state which is a great accomplishment for only being a sophomore. The girls ended up taking 14th place out of 16 with Clintonville and Freedom being the two female squads to earn trips to state. Boys Varsity The boys team was once again led by Junior Josh Kakes who took home 13th place in a time of 17.52. Next in was Jarod Rudolph in 18 minutes even for 18th place followed by Senior Alex Wood who ran a great final race taking 22nd in 18.09. Mike Knight was the next scoring member of the team taking 40th place in 18.48 with Jake Lueck taking 71st in 19.36. Tony Noland and Jon Weigel were close behind in 80th and 81st positions in 19.50 and 19.52. Josh Kakes ran a hard fought race with last years state champion taking first in 16.34 and Josh just missing a state qualifying bid by three positions or a total of 8 seconds. The boys team took 6th place missing 5th place by one point to Tomahawk. Freedom ran away with the meet finishing four runners in the top nine spots and easily defeating second place team Oconto Falls. Josh and Jarod both ran great today with Alex Wood close behind. Mike Knight also had a good showing today having been battling through lower leg pain for the last few weeks. The team fought valiantly today pushing hard for every position and finishing the season with their heads held high and yearning for another shot next year. On a personal note, I feel this team is one of the best, their finishes today does not do the work ethic and compassion for one another justice for in that regard they have already achieve victory. Thanks to everyone and enjoy some much needed time off. Sincerely, Kevin Wellman Medford CC Coach
