Customer Jenny Kemp and the Northside Mini Mix team competing at the Dayboro Show Team Penning hosted by the Queensland Working Cow Horse Club. They placed 2nd and 3rd penning 3 head in 52.75 and 52.94 seconds. Team penning in one of the fastest growing equestrian sports and is one of the few that mum, dad and the kids can all compete in the same event. The sport originated from ranch work where cattle had to be separated into different pens for branding, dipping etc. and is a fast-paced adrenalin-filled mix of skill and luck. A team of 3 riders has 90 seconds to separate 3 specific cattle (usually designated by coloured collars) from the herd of approx. 30 cattle and move them down to the other end of the arena and into the pen. They are not allowed any more than 5 head over the timeline and can only claim their time when only their coloured cattle are in the pen and no other cattle are on the pen side of the timeline. The team with the fastest time usually with 3 head penned is deemed the winner and some teams manage to do this in less than 30 seconds.
