Cyber Safety and Social Media Risks – What Every Family Needs to Know Presentation for Parents Poulsbo, WA – Smart phones, social media—everyone is connected, especially young people. Yet those same young people may not recognize the risks they face electronically, from predators to bullies to bad decisions that can haunt them for years. Nationally recognized speaker and Northwest attorney Charles Leitch will review with parents the risks and strategies on how to educate themselves on technology supervision as well as how to approach their children about these issues. The presentation, sponsored by the Poulsbo Rotaty, will be held on September 10, 2013, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the North Kitsap Auditorium. The format is designed to be entertaining as well as informative. This is a free event that our community is invited to attend. Note that this presentation is designed to inform and educate parents and, due to some of the subject areas to be reviewed, please be aware that some content may not be suitable for young children. Leitch will be conducting presentations at each of our secondary schools earlier in the day that is suitable for these age groups. Mr. Leitch provides guidance and training nationally on bullying prevention and response, technology and data protection, and internet safety and social media, including policy and best practices. He was a member of Attorney General Rob McKenna’s Youth Internet Safety Task Force, serves on the advisory boards of Ikeepsafe.org, and Generation Safe in Washington D.C., and is on the faculty of the Public Risk Management Association (PRIMA) national institute. Mr. Leitch has been an invited keynote speaker for the Department of Education/Supreme Court of the Territory of Guam, the National Cyber-safety and Girl Bullying Conferences, and schools throughout the United States.
