DA holds pest and disease management seminar in Kalinga BY: LARRY LOPEZ TABUK CITY, Kalinga (PIA) – The Department of Agriculture (DA) holds an intensive five-day pest and disease management seminar-workshop on March 4-8, here. Provincial Rice Program Coordinator Joe Casibang said 28 farm extension workers and selected farmer-leaders of the province are participating in the seminar. This is part of the continuing farm-interventions provided by DA to enhance agricultural production in the province. Participants are given lectures on improved and effective technology on pest and disease prevention and control with emphasis on ecological balance and protection. The new technology also advocates low-cost management in dealing with common problems of farmers on pest and diseases designed to cut production cost bringing higher profits.. Aside from lectures and workshops, trainees are required to go for onsite farm visit and observation to see how the technology works. Casibang said after the seminar, participant farmer-leaders are expected to share what they have learned to fellow farmers to reach-out to those in remote fields.
