DESIGN IS ONE screens at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Santa Fe, starting tomorrow evening, November 8, and running through November 13. Lella and Massimo Vignelli’s designs cover such a broad spectrum that you are sure to have encountered their work, from industrial and product design, graphic and publication design, brand identity, architectural graphics, and exhibition, interior, and furniture design. Massimo brought the Helvetica typeface to America in 1965, and then he and Lella created New York’s iconic subway signage and maps; the interior of Saint Peter’s Church at Citicorp Center; Venini lamps; Heller dinnerware; furniture for Poltrona Frau; and branding for Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue, Ford and American Airlines. Numerous luminaries testify in a lovely tale of creativity and partnership.
