DIFFER OF OPINION THE MEANING OF CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCHY ON ENDORSING OF MENTRI BESAR OF SELANGOR As highlighted in several news social media which goes viral that the Sultan of Selangor has no authority to decide who should be nominated the Mentri Besar of Selangor instead of the present individual by the name of Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim. The controversial aspect of endorsing the future head of Selangor State arises from the opinion of a constitutional expert of Prof Dr Abdul Aziz Bari who said that Malaysias Constitutional Monarchy does not provide the Selangor Sultan with authority to decide who should be the State Mentri Brsar. This is surely differed and contradict from the views of another a prominent law Datuk Zaid Ibrahim as he reiterated that such legal constitution Malaysia has emulated the countries of United Kingdom and Australia. He also cited the example of 2010 General Election in UK after which their Queen or King did not involve in the endorsing or nomination of the Head of State but let the politicians from the House of Common. As to our country Malaysia, we take the example of Terengganu the Sultan did not involve when the Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmed Said was replaced by Datuk Abdul Raziz Ab.Rahman as the present Mentri Besar of Terangganu.. Coincidentally, another lawmaker Khalid Ab.Samad that he gathers from the public opinion thatSultan should not have the absolute discretion as who should fill the Mentri Besar,s post. While Maria Chin Abdullah mentioned that the Sultan is to reign to perform the royal duties but the Sultan is not there to rule the government or rule the country. Similarity to the opinion of Datuk Ambiga Serenevasavasan with NGO Bersih 2.0 claims thMB Khalid has put the Sultan in difficulty situation by not resigning himself despite not commanding the majority support of the State Assembly. From the legal point of view of the Constitutional Monarchy the Sultan has no ground to get involve in the endorsing and nomination. of the Mentri Besar. Thus if Khalid Ibrahim is adamant in refusing to acknowledge the specified bye-law then it would be sooner or later be tested in a vote of no-confidence later in the State Assembly.
