DONT FORGET -- TROOP DRIVE SATURDAY: Operation Appreciation 2014 – 9/20/14 Collection Drive for local US Troops Operation Appreciation 2014 is a collection drive conducted for the purpose of providing personal items to our local U.S. Troops recently deployed to Afghanistan. The initial call for help was raised by the auxiliary members of the American Legion Post 58 out of Oxford, MA and the Unit 58 Woman’s Auxiliary and American Legion Riders are coordinating the drive in Central Massachusetts. Several of the 160 members of the 379thEngineering Company are residents of northeast Connecticut and the Massachusetts area. We are also simultaneously conducting a Food Drive for the Oxford Food Pantry. This drive will help our service men and women facing warfare in an area where temperatures often rise above 120 degrees. Besides those hardships, they are without personal items we take for granted here at home. Their internet access is spotty, mail delivery can take up to three weeks, and access to personal items is extremely limited. These items are of importance: Personal Sized fleece Blankets, baby wipes, deodorant, shampoo, tampons and other feminine hygiene products, razors, body washes, toothbrushes & paste, mouthwash, laundry soap and Tide/Gain soap pods, baby powder with cornstarch, hydrocortisone cream, hard candies, chocolate candies, powder drink packets for water bottles, playing cards, small games, Frisbees, and gently treated/new books, and the gloves made out of yarn, microwaveable meals (ie chef Boyardee, Dinty moore and Macaroni and cheese bowls). Items can be dropped off at the American Legion Post 58, 227 Main Street, Oxford, MA on Saturday, September 20, 2014, from 9am -2pm. Monetary donations (for shipping costs) are welcome and checks should be made out to ALA #58 (American Legion Auxiliary Post 58). Additional drop-off locations and business pickups are available by contacting Elizabeth Hallene 508-641-0642 or email Joann Eiler at ctopap2014@gmail. “Like” the drive on Facebook at Operation Appreciation 2014 to leave us a message.
