Dad underwent a procedure in the cath lab. They inserted a screen - TopicsExpress

Dad underwent a procedure in the cath lab. They inserted a screen into the large vein in his stomach that carries blood back to the lungs and heart because he has developed DVT (blood clots) in the deep veins in his legs. I did some research and this is common in people who are immobile, people with spinal cord injury and after surgeries lasting longer than 30 minutes. He has been unable to take anticoagulants due to the drains in his back, so this put him at further risk. They have been trying other prophylactic measures but they are not as effective alone as they would be in conjunction with an anticoagulant. They started him on a clot buster and/or anticoagulant following this procedure. They still have not performed the jaw surgery to relocate the plates and pins to the outside of his mouth. They have not yet given a date or time either. In fact, we dont even know if they are still planning on doing it. :-/ He got his speaking valve yesterday and is loving being able to communicate. He called me today at work in Odessa and I got to hear his voice for the first time in about a month! Heaven to my ears! It made me very happy and so proud. Hes proving hes a fighter every day. Please continue to pray for Dad. Also, please try to make it to the benefit lunch in Dads honor on Aug. 9th at Cushing VFD starting at 11 am so we can thank you all in person. The benefit is to help mom and dad with the unexpected expenses of Dads medical care. We are planning on using a portion of the donations we have received to alter the house to make it more wheelchair friendly and build a ramp to the porch for wheelchair access, if needed. My family and I appreciate every prayer, kind word and kind act that has come from you all. Ive never been more proud of our community. This is the way things should be in the world, people (sometimes strangers) pulling together in times of need. We are so blessed to have such wonderful people in our lives and our hearts.
