Daily Devotionals by Peter Kennedy: Devotional - When Fear Strikes “Abraham replied, I said to myself, There is surely no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.” – Genesis 20:11 Many people have fears, but some celebrities have very unique fears. Actor Billy Bob Thornton is afraid of antiques. “Maybe it’s a past life thing and I got beat to death with an old chair,” Thornton once said. “But I’m totally serious. I can’t eat around antiques.” He swears that they make him “gag.” Talk show host Oprah Winfrey has a fear of chewing gum so extreme that she forbids the substance from even entering the building in which her show is filmed. She’s gone as far as to throw out a dinner plate upon which a guest had left a chewed piece of gum. Former “Baywatch” television star Pamela Anderson is terrified of her reflection. Not only can she not look at herself in a mirror, she also refuses to watch herself on television. Finally, actor Matthew McCounaghey is fearful of revolving doors. “I get anxious just being near them,” he said. Additionally, tunnels have been known to give Matthew the willies. When any type of fear strikes you, look to the Lord. Today in prayer, thank the Lord that He wants to conquer all of your fears. “Whenever I hear about Christ as Savior it appears that he saves us from sin – and I don’t wish to deny that – but in my experience he does more than that; he releases us from fear, and I think fear is the great killer.” – Ivor Smith-Cameron God’s Word: “Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.” – Proverbs 29:25
